After entering a challenging school talent competition at age 9, Nico prevailed and his impetus for singing skyrocketed. Nico was born Eckersney Thompson on July 12, 1977 in Montego Bay and recalls that any competitor who failed the given task had to compensate the individual that initiated the task.  Hence, he made the best of the situation to avoid compensation and earned the confidence of his peers. An opportunity at Jammins with Collin Roach produced his first single "I am Hurt" on the money money riddim in 1996.   This association also contributed to a meeting with executive producer Jahmikes who embraced his artistic ability and offered him a place on the Reggae Vibes Productions Inc roster.

A pure vocalist, songwriter and guitarist who admires Lukie D says that his goal is to create music that uplift and inspire people.  "If you are not going to say anything positive, leave the music alone," says Nico.  Music is a powerful thing and I want to deliver songs that are therapeutic for the listeners and relevant to the times.  My themes range from social, political, spiritual and emotional issues.  When asked about the present state of reggae Nico says, "I am satisfied and am looking forward to serving as a musical ambassador following in the footsteps of reggae great Bob Marley."  The only thing I want to change is the minimal opportunities for aspiring vocalist who are often overlooked by promoters and producers."

Nico performed at Sumfest 2003 in Montego Bay-Jamaica, Culture in the West at the Montego Bay Caribbean Beach park and alongside Beenie Man and Fire Lion at " Summer Sizzle 2003 @ Bury Night Club"  His live performances are fused with energy and pure melody. "I go anywhere the music takes me, says Nico. I want the audience to feel it and I am aware that reception is contingent upon my delivery."

He has recorded over 20 tracks, several of which are being used to assemble his debut album on Reggae Vibes Productions Inc.  His single "Are you really sure" on the Reggae Vibes Productions Inc "Focus Rhythm" compilation cd touches on the virtue of spiritual acclimation.  The five star rated Nude Rhythm compilation cd also features his collaboration with Mahlon Stewart with the title track "Let Me Know."  He has also collaborated with Jigsy King, Lady Saw, Dean Fraser/Firehouse Crew and looks forward to working with Lukie D, Beres Hammond, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and Shaggy.  When asked what is a studio session like with him, he responds "Very productive preferably with the engineer and myself."  He also prefers to record at nights because the atmosphere is generally quieter, there are fewer distractions, thereby facilitating his most creative recording sessions.

His favorite album is "Da Real Thing" by Sizzla because it encompasses a variety of issues and has been the most inspirational for him. His musical influences includes: Bob Marley, Lukie D, Burning Spear, Morgan Heritage, Beres Hammond, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and R&B artist Ginuwine.  Nico embodies the musical ability to join the ranks of his predecessors and the determination to become a reggae music ambassador.  He says the best word that describes him is perseverance and this is the key ingredient for longevity in this highly competitive music industry.  His debut album is scheduled for release 2004.
